REST - Refugee Sponsorship Settlement & Support Team
We would like to introduce you to our newest Community Action team: REST. This team was formed as our local response to the current world refugee crisis of 65.3 million forcibly displaced people around the world.
REST has fundraised for the sponsorship of a Syrian refugee family and has collected furniture and household items for the family. Our team is now set to welcome this family of 8 with care, support, and helping them settle into our community and Canadian life.
We appreciate your prayers for the team and the family, You can help financially in the raising of another $6,000 to complete the support, or volunteer to help the family. Please visit Outreach Central today and connect with REST team members for more information.
RAY OF HOPE COMMUNITY CENTRE
For more than 40 years, Ray of Hope has worked with troubled youth and people in poverty in the Waterloo Region. Ray of Hope is open 7 days a week and provides daily hot meals, food distribution, clothing, laundry facilities, showers and personal care items as well as spiritual encouragement from a Christian faith perspective.
Koinonia is honoured to be part of this life-changing ministry through financial support and volunteer involvement in the Ray of Hope Community Centre (formerly known as the Waterloo Region Dream Centre).
Sunnyside Home, located near Stanley Park in Kitchener, is an accredited facility providing different levels of care for people who require assistance with the activities of daily living.
Sunnyside has an active volunteer program with over 200 volunteers who are integral to the provision of quality care to the residents, but there are always a large number of volunteer positions available.
We are part of the Pastoral Care Advisory Committee, and our teams help conduct monthly Sunday afternoon services which the residents absolutely love!
GRAND VALLEY INSTITUTION FOR WOMEN
Our Grand Valley prison team supports the women in the prison through a variety of activities and chapel services. Also, our annual Divine Women's Conference puts together gifts bags for the women at GVI to demonstrate God’s unfailing love for them.
