ABOUT LIFE GROUPS

Our church is a family and it is our desire to see everyone who calls Koinonia home develop deep and meaningful relationships. Life Groups are designed as opportunities for us to share life together and support one another in a small group setting. They are a safe place for each of us to engage in discussions, get our questions answered, and learn and grow together.

At Koinonia we believe that life is better together! Don’t miss this great opportunity to develop new friendships and deepen the relationships you already have with others in the Koinonia family.

Search for Intimacy is designed to empower single people to live successfully in a highly sexualized world. People need more than rules about sex. They need a framework for life that will enable them to have fulfilled and successful relationships. Search for Intimacy will help you explore finding a life partner and appropriately handling your sexuality.

There will be a separate group for guys and girls.

  • Deadly Dating

  • How Far Can I Go?

  • Safe Sex

  • How Will I Know?

  • Healing

GRIEFSHARE

LEADERS: Barb Kilgore, Jessie-Lee Grigat, Darryl Gingerich

Wednesdays from 6:45-8:45pm

The worst grief is the one each individual is experiencing. If you’ve lost a loved one, you probably feel like there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. You may have many questions about things you’ve never faced before. Questions such as ‘Is what I’m feeling normal?’ ‘Why is going to church difficult?’ ‘What are healthy ways to mourn the loss and find hope and healing?’.

Each week we will watch a video on a stand-alone topic with experts and personal stories. After, we will spend time as a group discussing the week’s topic. There is also opportunity for further personal study and reflection throughout the week using a workbook.

For more information on this course, visit www.griefshare.org.

REQUIREMENTS: Suitable for anyone age 17 or older who is grieving the death of a friend or family member. Max 12 participants. Purchase the workbook for $20 at the Resource Centre before the first class.

VALIANT MAN

LEADERS: Millard Meyers, Joe Sonne

This Life Group will begin Oct. 10.

Learning how to handle the pressure of male sexuality is one of the skills necessary for a man to be successful in his personal life and with his spiritual development. We live in a highly sexualized world, and the pressure to develop distortions in male sexuality is high. When men develop distorted sexuality their integrity is imperiled, their spiritual vitality is undermined, and their marriages are endangered. Developing and maintaining a healthy sexuality is every man’s battle. We invite you to be a part of Valiant Man.

REQUIREMENTS: For men age 18 and older. Cost is $35 (which covers the cost of the workbook).

THE ALPHA MARRIAGE COURSE

LEADERS: Erik & Maria Vander Ahe

This Life Group will be held offsite from 7-9pm, beginning Oct. 3. Note: No meeting on Oct. 31.

This course is for any married couple, whether you’ve been together for one year or sixty-one years; whether you have a good relationship or are struggling. The practical tools of the course are applicable to everyone. The course is made up of 8 sessions and will begin on Wednesday October 3. We will not be meeting on October 31. The class will run from 7-9pm. It will be held in the home of Erik & Maria Vander Ahe in Elmira.

REQUIREMENTS: For couples. Limited space available. No childcare provided. Purchase a workbook for $10 (1 book per couple) at the Resource Centre.

This Life Group is full. For information on future availability click the “contact us” button below.

LEADER: Dave Champion

Heart of the House (Sept 26-Oct 24) is designed to share the vision of Koinonia and communicate our core values. This 5-week course centres around videos of Pastor Steve Fleming sharing the heart of Koinonia, followed by an opportunity to ask questions and discuss each lesson. This is a great orientation if you are considering making Koinonia your home church. If you already call Koinonia home, this is a necessary step to begin serving.

Heart of the Gospel (Nov 7-28) is a video-based course designed to help strengthen your faith and deepen your understanding of the Gospel. Topics covered include: the origin and nature of sin, God’s rescue plan for humanity, what Jesus accomplished on the cross, the new life we have received in Christ, and how we can live as Christ’s ambassadors.

REQUIREMENTS: For anyone in Grade 7 and up.

FINANCES 101

LEADER: Rob Musselman

God’s Word has a lot to say about money and contains many truths about how we can steward our finances in a God-honoring way. No financial challenge is beyond God’s redemption when brought under the power of His Word and wisdom. Join us as we explore a variety of topics related to personal financial stewardship. There will be lots of opportunity for discussion and to receive practical help in managing your finances.

REQUIREMENTS: For anyone.

PROPEL WOMEN

LEADERS: Stephanie Bigelow, Lori Bigelow

This group will be held offsite.

Celebrating every woman’s passion, purpose, and potential. We are a group of women called to the marketplace, who are creating a safe space for growth, learning, and support. We seek to develop our skills in the workplace through discussion and to mutually support each other in our calling. We also focus on holding ourselves accountable to one another in order to create a climate of success for all of our members through honest reflection, courageous dialogue, and focused prayer. This semester will be focused on personal leadership. Learn more about Propel Women at propelwomen.org.

TRUE BIBLICAL WARFARE

LEADERS: Jim Lee, Chris Mitchell

Curious about demons or strongholds? In this Life Group, you will learn how to enforce Satan’s defeat in every area of your life so you can live in the victory God intended for every believer. No longer do you have to battle to a place of victory once you understand the authority that is yours in Jesus Christ. Learn to take up your position in Christ where you belong – which is always a position of victory.

REQUIREMENTS: For anyone. Highly recommended optional reading – The Triumphant Church by Kenneth E. Hagin can be purchased at the Resource Centre for $15.

SOAKING WORSHIP

LEADERS: Jennifer Choong & Team

What does it mean to "soak" as you worship? Spending unhurried time worshipping, experiencing the Presence of God, soaking in all of Who God is, giving Him space and time to speak deeply into your heart, and then responding to Him!

Each week we will explore a theme as we worship; inviting God to speak into our hearts and life circumstances, with time to receive and respond to His great love and grace towards us.

REQUIREMENTS: For anyone.

MEN'S DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS

God has created men to be strong, but today’s culture has hijacked masculinity, distorting strength into passivity and abuse. This semester we will be following a 5-part video Bible study series by Joby Martin called “Act Like Men.” We will be challenged to embrace God’s definition of masculinity and to step into His calling upon our lives to use our strength on behalf of others. God has designed men to be protectors, providers, and defenders. When men act like men, everyone flourishes. Be encouraged, make new friends, and grow in your faith as we learn to be the men God has called us to be.

LEADERS: David Scheifele, Joe Choong
WHEN: Mondays (bi-weekly), Waterloo

LEADERS: Adam Smellie, Shawn Jones
