What to Expect
What can I expect on my first visit?
When you pull into our parking lot off St. Charles Street, we make sure the first faces you see have a smile for you! You'll be greeted by volunteers in bright orange vests who will direct you to the best available spot.
What should I be wearing?
You can dress any way you want! Some people like to wear traditional suits and Sunday dresses, but you'll be right at home in jeans.
Our foyer's pretty big, and it will probably be buzzing with conversation. Not sure what to do next? Here are a few ideas:
Welcome Centre:
Stop by for your gift and to connect with some friendly faces! It's to the left of the stairs – look for the purple signs.
Check in your kids:
We understand that in order for you to have a great time at church, you need to know that your kids are in safe hands and are having fun! If you have children or youth with you (infant – Grade 8), a volunteer will help you check them in at the kiosks in the foyer. If your kids are under 3 years old, you can drop them off at their nursery anytime during the service; preschool and older will be dismissed partway through the service.
Enjoy a coffee by the fireplace:
Take the coupon you received at the Welcome Centre and get yourself a latte, smoothie or Americano at our House Blend Café, on us! It's open between Sunday morning services and after the 11:00 service is finished.
Visit the Bookstore:
Browse our selection of inspiring books and resources. We also have a DVD lending library with lots of great family films and teaching videos.
Relax in the auditorium:
An usher will direct you to a great seat in our gym-turned-auditorium, and you can read through the booklet and brochures you received at the Welcome Centre to find out more about everything going on in this House. A 5-minute countdown video will let you know exactly when service will start.
Enjoy the service:
- All our services start off with vibrant, upbeat and powerful worship, where we express our love for God.
- Depending on the day, we might have something extra like a baby dedication, Communion, water baptism, or something we call "Breakthrough Offering" which happens once a month (where everyone gets up out of their seats and walks up the aisles – don't worry, you don't have to participate... it's kind of a family tradition!)
- When we receive the offering, please know that you are under no obligation to give (really)! Giving is for our Koinonia family, and it's a demonstration of our obedience and trust in God's faithfulness.
- "Koinonia News" will fill you in on some of the events and conferences coming up, which are designed to help you connect with this family, grow in your faith, and expand your circle of influence with those in your world. Every weekend, you will hear a relevant, straightforward message that is based 100% on the Bible. It will challenge you to grow and apply truths to your life situation, and, most importantly, meet Jesus Christ and find out why we're so passionate about Him!
Bottom line: our hope is Koinonia becomes a place that you can call home.
